During Vi's family medicine residency at Scott & White in Temple, TX, she met my mom, one of her attending physicians/bosses. Vi elected to join one of my mom's mission trips to Nicaragua in 2012. This was going to be my sixth trip to Nicaragua. We met for the first time while packing medications in the basement of the First Presbyterian Church. I remember that she was wearing that awful burnt orange Longhorn sweatshirt, so we had our Longhorn vs Aggie rivalry throughout the trip. Unfortunately, in the beginning of our trip, Vi had her shoes stolen and I had to help her find some new shoes. I picked out the red rain boots for her, the Nicaraguan version of Dorothy's red slippers. She was very stylish indeed.
A year after that trip, I tracked her down and found out that she had completed her residency and had started working in the Woodlands. I was working on a construction project in the Woodlands at that time, so I asked her to meet and catch up. She thought I was too young for her at that time so I disappeared... and grew a beard...
By fate alone, we randomly ran into each other again a year later at Sage County on October 17, 2014, and we have been together ever since.
I proposed the last weekend of July at Horseshoe Bend during our road trip from Phoenix, AZ-->Sedona (Cathedral Rock, Chapel of the Holy Cross, & Bell Rock)-->Grand Canyon-->Page (Antelope Canyon & Horseshoe Bend)-->Zion National Park-->Las Vegas!!! We resisted eloping :)
